Following on from an outstanding trip to Croatia in 2008, several members of the Overland Adventure Club decided to go back on tour and head off to Portugal.
Firstly, we booked the ferries. We decided to drive their through France and Spain, so the outbound journey used the Dover - Calais ferry, but return via the Bilbao to Portsmouth. The theory being that if a Landy had given problems then we would have a shorter journey back.
Next we booked the main accommodation and found a substantial Villa near Peniche.
Finally, it was "just" a simple case of booking various campsites through France, Spain and Portugal for the journey there and back.
We had decided to make it a leisurely trip there - the Croatia trip was quite an intense trek with just 2 stop overs through 9 countries - so this time we had a maximum of around 350 miles in a day, and even had two nights at one site in Southern France.
When we got to the Villa, we had a great time finding the greenlanes - miles upon miles of outstanding, and at times quite challenging tracks. We never had any issues with locals, and on one day we were invited to follow a quadbike who was keen to show us other routes. Unfortunately he was going much faster than us, so we eventually lost them.
Here's a few photo's from the trip:
